Its My Choice

Whatever I am doing is none of your business really.

Maybe you felt like saying it to the other fellas face right on, else you might just replace it with “lol okay I know” and just move on. But there exist a fine line between having a self opinion and being downright stubborn.

Much too often I’ve seen people who want to change, ask for advice, advised at, and persists at what they are doing as if asking advice suffices the need to change. Slowly the need to change dies off and then said person remains the same, albeit much harder to change now; for change seems to come too slowly, too boring, too much time taken to do so.

A person having a self opinion (should at least) sound like so :

“ABC is good. I am willing to go for it, though if other XYZs are better I will weight them against each other and see how it goes”

While a stubborn person (should have thoughts which) sounds like:

“ABC is good. I am myself, and no one has the right to change me regardless of what they say! I’m sticking through with ABC all the way, and might just reply others with one-liners to keep them uninterested”

Though that being said, I am open to thoughts and comments regarding these. No theory should be left untested.

Never thought that I would be living though this time of the year, still studying.

The last week of 2011

The end of 2011 is nigh. Though that being said, much of us in KTJ, INTEC are still studying for our big exams on January. Its a little something like the pre-SPM period – lecturers repetitively brushed us up on past year questions hoping for us to get used to the ‘exam’ mood but most of us are just too bored to study. Like me!

The hostel, is so unlike the first time we came here to stay. The courts used to be bustling with energetic youth who know better to appreciate sports and fitness unlike me . But now, the hostel has only less than 20% of its room lights lit up at night, being not too dark but a little too much like a lonely village. This just shows that the KTJ’s are the only ones left here during the December holidays.

But its not too bad you know! We recently had a present exchange party yesterday, which was pretty fun in my opinion, and the analog calculator which everybody in the bloody KTJ has at least one, and which isn’t much useful when I’m in Japan, while also being the most ‘empathic’

gift was very much received with open arms. Thanks yuien suan for such a present.

Of course, I had given my lovely Cynthia with a darling Domokun Bag pack, and in return she made me some awesome handmade chocolates! (which tasted like toggi and well received by my taste buds)

Thanks my beloved, for such a lovely christmas present! :D

As Easy as ABC

Or so they say.

These two weeks I have met with quite a change in lifestyle. Sort of. There are elements I wish to change in my daily routine eg:

the mundane 8-5 schedules
the clockwork assembly line I am subjected to every single class day
the food I eat
and so on

Apart from point 3, most of the other elements are here to stay (sadly). Out of the 3 canteens in my beloved University, 1 of them is closed, another one could be closed anytime while the last one has just bad food with a bad price tag.

Canteens in my hostel was closed yesterday. Not taking any chances on them, I bought my groceries and prepared for today’s dinner.

I know, its nothing special, but I have been trying my best to hone my cooking skills every week. Every week I cook a new dish (for 4 days straight) so that I get to cook for my beloved cynthia when I get back on Friday.

The smell of rain

It has been raining a lot these days, no?

Raining in the wee hours in the morning, some time in the afternoons, and at times late at night. But the average Malaysian knows better; as the clouds and winds which follow are much more welcomed than their sunny counterparts here.

One would also notice the slight smell of rain, perhaps due to the winds which brought air from some place not too far away. This smell I got accustomed to, reminds me of times when I was young, jubilant and rather wildly, staying at home staring at the window smelling the same old smell of the rain. This smell, brings me memories of my friends and I, during primary school and high school, studying in class as sleazily as we were back then while it rained.

The familiar yet dark, grey clouds often brings soothing winds which sometimes can turn into flurry in a bit – but at that time half of us would already be asleep, be it in our rooms, the sofa, the classroom. This familiar dark shade of grey reminds me of the time where as a high school student, I raced under the torrential blankets of water pellets on my way to or from tuition or school. Else I would be chatting away with good friends around a typical classroom table, free from worry as our future counterparts would have.

This smell… Ah… makes the bed much more inviting that it probably was. It is said that sleeping under the rain would ensure a good night’s sleep, or so the average Malaysian would think. The invitation to dreamland dilutes the wrath of both thunder and lightning; rendering them both useless, leaving a strange peaceful feeling, lingering just moments before we lose our consciousness.

This smell… Will it be different? When I am abroad? I dread to think. I hope not. As much as I wanted to taste the air of other countries, I hope the smell of rain would stay the same. For I needed something to remind me of the good and the bad times I had in my motherland. Ah, those good memories.

For when rain falls, we would idle in our rooms, often calm in spirits, ready to relax and calm down from the hectic lifestyle one would have.

That is when, the smell of rain is of most pleasant.

Across The Ocean

“Ah……”

I thought to myself, as I sat down on the toilet bowl, doing things that we normally do but do not normally imagine.

…

Yeah that thing.

Accompanied by the then mild engine noise, I sat down, comfortably adjusting my hip to the seat to ensure optimum comfort

during the expulsion process.

“Coming out anytime now…”

Then the engine roared, signalling departure and acceleration as I have been thrown to the left of my seat, throwing my focus into disruption, as I scrambled back onto the toilet bowl.

Yes. I’m on a boat.

A boat from the Shahbandar Jetty en route to the Redang Island. Today alone, I had a total of 8 (as of now) trips to the toilet, each one before being disrupted by tedious messages and tasks like

“We’re leaving the hotel”

“Come out we have to get you a ticket”

“I have to use the toilet bowl too”

And finally, I get my quality time with Mr Toilet Bowl accompanied by the engine noise and the pulsating vibrating metal door frame which is much noisier than Mr Engine.

At least they have internet here! (In the mainland anyway, was playing both Ikariam and Spiral Knights)

Extra-curricular studies

You know it when you’re bigger than the kids around

Its been awhile. Studying ahead of the class has been and will be tough since i have no teachers to guide me every now and then; more often than never it is myself who can be attributed to my success and failure alone.

So yeah, its just me.

Anyhoot! Here are the things i have in mind as of now.

1) Complex analysis

Currently until Cauchy’s Integral Formula, (attempting proof of higher derivatives)

Expected completion : 1 month’s time

2) Unifi

can’t wait :D

Behold godspeed! No more hon lags, slow youtube, and 1 week’s wait for 9GB games!

Expected Completion : A few more hours time (actually, the unifi boys are in my house now as i type)

More precisely , the (something something) bushi requires alot of moving around, but gladly not as bad as soran bushi（ソラン武士） as our seniors did.

Yet, i sprained my knee. ouch.

before that, let me tell you a tiny story.

Guy : Hey, what do you want to eat?

Girl: Hmmmm, I don’t know… Anything will do.

Guy : Alright, what about Nasi Lemak?

Girl : Nah, later i’ll get fat.

Guy : So… What about mee goreng?

Girl : Yer, too oily.

Guy : Asam Laksa?

Girl : Don’t want. Boring.

Guy : Mixed rice?

Girl : Everyday eat the same thing again, boring-lah.

Guy: then what DO YOU want???

Now, the main point is the Anything will do phrase.

With that, clearly the Girl hoped for the Guy to choose something that she likes despite she saying Anything will do.

Or, she would just throw in a hopeless “sorry” to apologize, or she doesn’t bother.

Either one of these choices are right.

Am I right?

Moving on.

To clarify things up, I made a list of the 3 things I hate in general human being personalities. Til date, I have never found such a number of people satisfying a particular criterion, at such an unlikely place.

At such an unlikely age.

People who abuses their friends

To think of them to appear all in one place?

To think of them as… friends?

I was staring into Mr Asus. clicking through webpages regarding o2jam and the likes of it.

Situation : Teacher was teaching about Vectors and Planes in space. Apparently she is unable to convey the equation of a plane to the fellow students in Ajisai class. For short, she doesn’t know how to explain, and requires a student (who wasn’t paying attention in her class anyway) to guide the students of his class regarding that chapter.

Reaction : I retracted my hands of the computer, then started scratching my head, tilting my head sideways, giving a sheepish smile saying…

hehehehe…. =/ teaching ah…

I pondered about this. Frankly, I have given up hope on her to guide me in mathematics; more often than never I guide myself.

2 years before, I am able to do the work she gave to me today.

2 years later, my skills have stayed the same.

But then I thought of the plight of my fellow classmates. Regarding the teacher’s previous question, they stared at the teacher with puppy dog eyes, hoping that she may provide some beacon of light to clarify regarding the subject. But she did not.

Not wanting them to be victims of sub-par educational system, I then stood, and said

Taking a marker pen in one hand, I drew some mathematical diagrams on the whiteboard, I started my first “lecture” in class, saying:

My breathing gets short. My lungs screamed for air, but it was only able to take in amounts which are not sufficient for my going-around-Genting usage.

Phlegm builds up. Some of them rose up to the point where i get to throw it out.

To no avail. Phlegm came back up to mock my immune system.

Well well well.. its about time.

Recall that, last year, i finished my programme at around October 25

And the ceremony this time is on October 10th.

Which makes my completion last year approximately 16 days too late.

Events like these are normally filled with amazingly large amounts of small kids of whom have extraordinary mathematical skills. The point is they are small kids.

And did i mention that so far in uitm i have yet to meet a single Kumon completer?

so yeah. they are so out of my social circle. save for a few anyway.

If only they were filled…

Today was burning mad. The sun, i mean. As i paced my way back to my dorm it was so hot that my toes can feel the efforts of the sun rays boring through the thick leather skin which encompasses my shoe.

Today we had chemistry. But before that our “beloved” weekly monitor gave us the physics sheets which was supposed to be done last week.

Way to go.

Coupled with the work the teacher gave this week (which I intend to do after i finish typing this) I have twice the amount of physics work, in addition to the chemistry work which was given to us like today.

“Today we will learn about the basics of thermodynamics, and the correlation between the first law and Hess’ Law”

At least this is fun. I’d rather learn new stuffs like these than feeding me baby stuffs.

Boiling Point

CAUTION: This is a VERY long rant. The writer attempted to channel his anger and feelings into this blog post but apparently he still needs his fried rice. So turn back if you do not want to read a very long post.

Its Tuesday. And as usual, I have maths.

See its right there, after the recess.

Time and time again, I have stressed out the fact that maths right now is an abyss filled with a single feeling : boredom. More often than never I assured myself that it is the syllabus’ fault for lacking of vital chapters for engineering students like us.

So here we go. I heaved a sigh, as the clock struck 2, which marks the start of my time flowing out of my fingertips, into an imaginary rubbish bin.

2 o’clock

I set up my lappie for I know that (with all due respect to my fellow classmates) I am able to finish any mathematics exercises thrown at us (well… as for now, that is) in time for me to be able to have approximately 1 hour’s worth of free time.

So i did my work. i checked upon stuffs that intrigued me, read my mails (which is null) and doing my Japanese homework. I knew that I would definitely be immersed in my work so therefore i decided to listen to what the teacher has to say occasionally in case if there is anything interesting or important like a new chapter, or some new calculation methods.

“…Class..”

“…Done…?”

“…Do…”

“…Discuss…”

That was all that i can catch. sensing nothing important, i continued my work. But to my surprise, the class fell awfully silent.

I looked around. However everybody looked down, onto a notebook of some sort, with a pencil on their primary hand, scribbling… writing… not even a peep.

So i asked around.

“今何をしていますか？”

(What are you doing now?)

“先週の宿題をしている。”

(Last week’s homework)

Even the teacher didn’t move. she just sat… scribbling on her notes… looking around. Then, she stood up, excused herself and went out of the class, perhaps back to her office which is a stone’s throw away, to relax and wait while the rest of us finished our work.

My brain worked out the words i have caught earlier on. seems to me that it resembles

“Class, are you Done with last week’s work?

(Not yet)

Not yet? okay now do your work and we will discuss later”

I… was shocked. I remembered we had homework for last week. I remembered it wasn’t a lot, and the bulk of the homework can be settled during the weekends. Maths was but a tiny portion of the homework. If there was a subject where we could wholeheartedly agree where there is a lot of homework, it definitely wasn’t mathematics. Basically, they did not do their work.

This wasn’t the first time.

Looking back here, I realised that ALL of the students around me are JPA students.

Handpicked.

Stellar.

Outstanding.

Proactive.

Intelligent.

Hardworking.

Self motivated.

Confident.

Those were the supposed qualities that was sought amongst the numerous candidates who turned up for the JPA interview.

However what was laid before me… Was another story altogether. Save for a few of my friends who actually finished the work (and just like me, spent this time to finish other homework), others… gave me the impression of being lazy.

How can they not finish their work? Is it that insignificant? Its not as if they already know; they DON’T!

A hurricane of thoughts went fluttering aimlessly in my head. Questions filled with the potential to explode. The more my logic solves these questions, the more disappointed in them. I was mad too. How can these happen? What about the rest who had finished the work, like I did? The more i thought of this, the closer i reach to the boiling point.

I switched on msn and worked my fingers creating silent but violent keyboard strokes, relaying my situation to my peers connected via the world wide web.

3 o’clock

The teacher came back from god knows where. I bid a virtual goodbye to my peers as i shoved the lappie under my desk. She then asks the class if they were done, which they promptly replied with a yes. The class was back to its loud and bustling self, no worries about work, the type of feeling where you just live to satisfy a particular status quo, no further than that.

Seeing this, further angered me because:

They are able to finish their work in an hour. apparently two weekend’s worth of time is somewhat insufficient to them.
They did not ask anyone when they did their work. This meant that they are CAPABLE of finishing their work by themselves. But they did not.

This further strengthened my hypothesis of them being downright lazy and not scholarship recipient material. The teacher wasted one hour’s worth of mathematics period when we could have finished learning new stuffs, or so i thought.

After discussing the answers of last week’s work, she immediately introduced a new chapter which she claims. I sought for post spm material… but all i got was

Solving system of inequalities… by graphs.

Its NOT EVEN PAST SPM FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

or maybe, she is solving system of sine, cosine, quadratic, circular… inequalities?

So yeah. its inevitable. Our maths is going nowhere. I got into furious mode and whipped up my pencil and notebook, and finished every single question before the class ended.

The anger did not subside even went i returned to my dorm. The refreshing shower water did not douse the furious blaze in my heart. I look calm and serious back then. but deep down, worry, despair, disappointment, rage and furious filled my heart with scorn.

And that’s that. As a last resort, I resorted to Oat Krunch cookies stashed at the top of my cupboard to keep these angry thoughts away.

The mid semester break started off as a result of the mid semester examinations. I would say that chemistry requires more practice but maths is really boring.

My session started at 9am. All in all its surprisingly okay, but I am also shocked to see why students did not prepare for this well.

After that, my mum decided to go ‘tour’ around PICC as Putrajaya is a very beautiful place, a notion which my aunt (there with me at that time) and I agreed upon.

Well yeah. Its paintball alright, its Counter Strike with limited weapon choice (heck, its only one) and bullets which makes your blood turn ORANGE! Now isn’t that just fine.

Note that there will be no pictures during the match itself, as it can be dangerous, to me camera.

We had quite a fun time at the field, each of us shooting each other with pellets which on impact (prerequisite: sufficient impulse) destructs to give orange paint which serves as a marking tool to denote DEATH.

And so, the gun is called a ‘marker’ a which is covered by a sock ‘parasock’ (i think) when it is handled outside the field to prevent injuries.

I am insanely lucky that day! many pellets hit me which insufficient velocity and thus rendering me… UNHARMED

And as we were busy shooting, the referee (yes there is one) called us out as the time is out.

Hence we used our remaining bullets at the shooting range.

As were the post SPM education rage continues, I went to KLCC the other day for the all so advertised…

CNY 2010 : Day One

Day #1

As tradition comes to mind, the Chinese New Year is likened to a compulsory obligation to most Chinese to visit their relatives and ~~give~~/receive red packets to/from ~~small kids~~/unwilling married couples to ~~ensure prosperity and wealth goes to those who are generous~~/fill our pockets for our daily entertainment needs.

And this year, unlike the last, it was a trip to Cameron Highlands for a family reunion. Surely it was a break from the monotony of the trips to Penang and stay at home. After all, i haven’t been here for a long time now, haven’t I?

2-3 a.m.

Anyways, after packing my kumon worksheets (XM1a-XM61a) and some necessary peripherals, I took off to Cameron Highlands and the irony is that the traffic is slightly heavier than usual. I got drowsy and so….

8 a.m.

Woke up and found myself in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands. Unpacked, and slept, due to lack of sleep. Took a walk around my uncle’s house at Taman Pelangi

After lunch, my uncle took us to a brief view to two of the many vegetables and flower plantations in Cameron Highlands. On his pick up truck!

Aite. Anyways, it was a very very bumpy ride, as pick up trucks are designed for volume, not comfort of the cargo. The cool highland breeze made our journey on the roads a very breezy ride even though the sun was bombarding us with UV rays and the likes of it.

The passenger is deaf to the co-pilot’s second request. The quasi-stampede out of flight MH has greeted me as i made my maiden trip to sabah. No passport needed, just a MyKad and your Boarding Pass :)

My aunt’s friend , Bernard took us from the terminal and we checked in at M Hotel, Sadong Jaya. Located due Northwest of the Airport, it has been my aunt’s choice due to price and comfort.

After that, we went to the coastal shores not to far away, watched the sunset, had dinner and off to dreamland.

Spent the new year’s eve at sunway as usual. Met up at about 1pm ++, watched sherlock holmes, ate expensively at dragon-i (god forbid that place ever) .

ugh.still sick here, but somehow better thanks to some commercial medication provided.

as it is a wednesday, my aunt decided to bring us to the Penang Turf Club to see some horses/ponies as she is teaching a student fhow to ride a horse (or pony, first)

The Penang Turf Club has small roads, while other than that its mostly covered with fauna especially grass, with the horses/ponies graze upon. well the horses/ponies eat almost any form of vegetation, so any grass you encounter upon over there, just pick some up and feed’em to the horses.

When you drive a car in here, the priority is given to he horses which their handlers ride. this means,

Giving way to them.
No honking
Do not overtake any horses
I know they’re slower but do not overtake them still.

what are the differences between horses and ponies? well, horses are considered the ‘supersized’ version of ponies, or ponies are the ‘supersmall’ sized version of horses. horses are big and ponies are small. Here are some pictures for comparison.

That’s basically it. after that, we took a ferry back to mainland penang before riding a train to KL central back to our houses.

The train leaves at ~~8:24pm~~ 10:42pm thanks to some delays as all public transports do.

First few days in penang

Directly that night after i got first prize in the kbu iq marathon, don’s mum fetched him and I to Batu Tiga railway station to take a transit to KL central.

the train ride lasted 8 hours from 8pm to 4am.

its been awhile since i last visited penang, but we (Ace, Don and I) have a few places in mind to visit/take pictures.

First of all, we watched AVATAR (not the one from nickelodeon!) in the Jusco Seberang Prai Mall. It s a nice movie to watch for all ages and gender, however it does have a few profanities such as B!tch, and so on. A few, so its practically harmless.

Secondly, we took a ferry from the mainland and went to Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Mall. nothing much, just a few picture taking and so on. Queensbay Mall’s McDonald is where everybody stared at the pink lappie which i update my blog from. = =

Unexpected Surprise

Today is a nice day!

KBU college

Today is the day of the KBU iq competition. Yeah, the one with the FREE laptop and a 3+0 UK degree scholarship as first prize

So basically it’s an IQ based competition. The competition is actually split into three parts, each with subtle amounts of contestant elimination involved.

Ace, Don and I all signed up for the competition. However, Ace had to go to penang early to visit his long lost friends. So its Don and I only.

There are approximately 340 expected contestants. (however only a hundred came, teehee)

The First and Second stage compromises of multiple selection test, with a time limit of 45 minutes and 30 minutes respectively.

After the first test, only 58 contestants are chosen to compete in the second test.

From the many hundreds of contestants,

And after the second test, 5 finalists are chosen to take partin the third stage, the STAGE BATTLE.

1)Essay Writing (Karangan)

2)Literature Components (Komsas)

3)Grammar and Vocabulary (Tatabahasa)

4)Summary Writing (Rumusan)

And, of course the loving teachers! :D

1) The Essay/Summary Writing Expert

He has awesome techniques for obtaining points for essays in a blink of an eye! but he ain’t no superman, though.

2) Literature Component Expert

he has the gift of the gab

He is totally AWESOME!

he calls himself penglipur lara (the one who comforts heartaches/storyteller) cuz he can!

and he probably explained the events in Sabor , Form 5 a little too detailed.

we were laughing our asses off as he described how Siti Saidah lied that she got “AHEM-ED” by Sabor, Almost half of the guys in the hall were turned on and the girls turned on the floor, LMAO

Teacher: Kebanyakan Murid lelaki Saya akan minta kebenaran untuk pergi ke tandas selepas aku jelaskan peristiwa dalam cerpen Sabor.

nice teacher too. we had alot of questions for this teacher, all answered promptly without breaking a sweat.

Emerging from the crowd of human beings, i pulled the line further forward;
grabbing a tight lined microphone was as annoying.

As I tapped furiously on the head of the microphone.

A voice reached out from behind, a hand emerged to hand me over a second microphone.

Today is the officiation event for the annual corporation (koperasi) week,

5 Years ago, i took my badge up on this very stage.

Spring cleaned today, sneezed non stop for 5 minutes. my nose is all red now

Yesterday, we went for a workshop, in Sunway University College

Pn Rachel brought all of us there. i'm only (and very) interested about the free food, nothing else.

so i brought time killing items instead. especially my 4by4 cube.

it left my hand not more than 10 secs into jon's hand.

*PRAK!*

2 pieces fell out.

somehow i trusted him, but few minutes later....

The words stared at me. hoping for a response.

I quickly broke the line of sight, flipping through the pages while my fingers worked consistently on the calculator. Glancing back and forth between the calculator's LCD screen and the pages, my head nodded softly if the figures matched or either made sense

and of course, there's ben and his prying eyes. and a tiny helmi behind

thinking back few days ago, or rather, the past 2 to 3 weeks. i was sitting right where i was, the only difference was the noise traffic that frequented my area.
